SEGA Looking To Launch 4 Major New Games From ‘Mainstay IPs’ By End Of March 2027

Sonic the Hedgehog creator SEGA has revealed that its development pipeline includes plans for four new games from mainstay IPs to launch by the end of March next year.
Speaking during its third quarter financial report, Sega Sammy outlined its plans for the next financial year, which runs April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. During this time, the publisher aims to “release four major new titles for mainstay IPs,” as well as looking to “maximise title potential through enhancement of ‘sales capabilities.’”
The publisher didn’t go into any detail as to what these mainstay IPs are right now, but Sonic the Hedgehog is surely guaranteed at this point, especially as the franchise celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Furthermore, we also have the likes of Stranger Than Heaven, Persona 4 Revival, and Total War: Warhammer 40,000 on the horizon that have yet to attract release dates.
Beyond that, SEGA announced during The Game Awards 2023 that it is working on fresh entries in a number of classic franchises including Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage. The studio also confirmed a new Shinobi title in the works, which was presumably last year’s Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
In March 2024, it was claimed by a respected leaker that its plans to resurrect the Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio franchises involve Unreal Engine 5-powered remakes. The new Crazy Taxi game currently in development (presumably separately from the remake) is apparently going to take the form of an open-world multiplayer title.
In regards to its plans for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary, the publisher revealed that it is planning a ‘high-energy slate of anniversary programs,’ whatever that means. Typically the company has released a new game to make previous Sonic anniversaries; for example, in 2011 we got Sonic Generations, and in 2022 (a year after the series’ 30th anniversary) Sega released Sonic Origins Collection.
