A Supermassive Horror Game Is Coming In Early 2026 As ‘Directive 8020’ Plots May Release Date

Following a substantial delay last year, Directive 8020 now has a nailed-on release date as Supermassive Games brings its next game in the Dark Pictures series to Xbox this May.
Yep, the team’s sci-fi horror game now arrives for Xbox Series X|S on May 12th, 2026 – and you can check out some new footage via the game’s pre-order trailer up above. We’ll also throw the team’s latest description of Directive 8020 below:
“Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone. Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.”
Directive 8020 was announced all the way back in 2024 after a short tease at the end of Supermassive’s last Dark Pictures game, The Devil in Me. Following that surprise delay out of last Halloween, we were unsure when this one would arrive, but Supermassive has planted its flag in May to bring some early-year spooks to Xbox players in 2026.
Finally, we’ll chuck some brand-new screenshots down below to whet your appetite for that May 12th Xbox launch:
