Overwatch 2 Is Preparing For A ‘Bold New Chapter’ As It Drops The ‘2’ From Its Title, Brings 10 New Heroes & Year-Long Narrative

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it is relaunching Overwatch 2 as part of a “bold new chapter” for the hero shooter, which involves dropping the ‘2′ from the game’s title and settings up a year-long narrative featuring 10 new heroes.
Season 1 for this new incarnation of Overwatch will launch on February 10, 2026 and includes five of the 10 planned new heroes, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is set to launch in Spring 2026.
Overwatch is more than just a digit: it’s a living universe that keeps growing, keeps surprising, and keeps bringing players together from around the world. This year marks a huge turning point in how the development team envisions the future of Overwatch, so we are officially dropping ‘2‘ and moving forward as Overwatch.
Overwatch will also see see a major interface redesign that will allow for modernised menus, improved navigation, and a new 3D hero lobby. Meanwhile, the Meta Event: Conquest sees players aligning with Overwatch or Talon across five weeks to battle for rewards, including 66 loot boxes, Legendary Echo skins, and faction-themed titles.
Dive into combat with the highly anticipated debut of five new heroes, including Talon-aligned Domina, Emre, and Mizuki, alongside Overwatch-aligned powerhouses Anran (Hero Trial: February 5 to 10) and Jetpack Cat. An additional Hero will launch each Season (2 to 6), bringing innovative abilities and captivating gameplay to shake up every fight, with each driving the ongoing narrative forward.
Overwatch 2 was originally released for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in August 2023. Unlike its predecessor, Overwatch 2 launched as a free-to-play title rather than a monetisation model, and ditched the loot boxes in four of a battle pass system.
