Pure Nintendo’s Top 10 Games of 2025

Last year is now over a month behind us. So why are we just now posting Pure Nintendo’s Top 10 Games of 2025? Let’s just say it took us some extra time to get things sorted out.

For the first time in a while, for example, we were considering games from two different platforms: the Switch and Switch 2. And with that new system came a slew of top tier competitors from Nintendo and various third-party developers. Then, of course, there’s Pure Nintendo’s top secret rating system that led to plenty of spirited debate amongst the staffers.

But here we are with the official list. We (and you) may differ on the rankings, but I think we can all agree that each of them is a worthy addition to your Nintendo game library.

#10: Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World

Pure Nintendo’s Top 10 Games of 2025

#9: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2

“Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are still out of this world. This pair of classic adventures remind us why we love Mario’s 3D outings in the first place. For existing fans, the temptation to replay in this enhanced form is strong. For new players, this is a must-own title.” – Jemma Casson

#8: Hollow Knight: Silksong

“Hollow Knight: Silksong is more than worthy as a successor to the original Hollow Knight. Team Cherry has done an incredible job of providing Fans exactly what we needed: an extension to the existing world that’s similar enough to be accessible while unique enough to feel fresh. If you love tough platformers with sprawling maps full of secrets to uncover, you owe it to yourself to try this game.” – Jemma Casson

#7: The Hundred Line ~Last Defense Academy~

“The Hundred Line: The Last Defense Academy is a must-play game for anyone who enjoys TRPG gameplay and compelling, often surprising sci-fi storytelling. Despite its dark themes and disturbing imagery, it’s a total joy to play.” – Kirk Hiner

#6: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

“Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a wonder to behold on the Switch. It looks stunning and features fantastic gameplay. There are some lingering issues with general repetitiveness and party management minutiae, but it otherwise shines like a Mira sunrise.” – Kirk Hiner

#5: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

“If this is the end of this version of Hyrule (that started in Breath of the Wild), it goes out on a high note, especially when enjoyed cooperatively. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is an entertaining entry that will keep you busy during the first year of the Switch 2. Heck, packed with content and surprises, it’s one you’ll likely return to when the mood strikes as well.” – Trevor Gould

#4: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

“Metroid Prime 4: Beyond delivers on all counts, with stunning visuals, an outstanding soundtrack, and solid exploration. At face value, this is a wonderfully constructed game that has been worth the wait. If you’re on the fence, do yourself a favor and jump into Samus’ latest adventure.” – Jemma Casson

#3: Donkey Kong Bananza

#2: Mario Kart World

“Mario Kart World looks (and sounds) as outstanding as it plays—speedy, sharp, and smooth on Switch 2. Longtime fans will have a ton of fun with its innovations, both major and minor. It’s a game you don’t want to miss, one that crosses the finish line with its head held high.” – Trevor Gould

#1: Pokémon Legends: Z-A

“I can’t deny how much fun l’ve had playing Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Its addictiveness triumphs over any minor issues. Real-time battles and entertaining side quests shine in Lumiose City. The value is there, with dozens of hours of thoroughly satisfying adventuring. Don’t miss this release.” – Trevor Gould
