Call Of Duty Was Outsold By Battlefield In US For The First Time Last Year, Black Ops 7 Records Worst Series Ranking Since 2008

Analyst firm Circana has revealed that Battlefield 6 outsold Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in the US last year, which marks the first time EA’s first-person shooter franchise has managed to outsell its long-time revival.

Battlefield 6 ranked as the best-selling game of last year across tracked platforms, making first place on Xbox and PC storefronts, while coming in second to NBA 2K26 on PlayStation. By comparison, Activision’s latest instalment in its military shooter franchise ranked fifth place, with Battlefield, NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds all outselling Black Ops 7.

Keep in mind that the latest Call of Duty game was released straight to Xbox Game Pass, and EA’s title launched over a month earlier than Black Ops 7 and was not a Game Pass title. Regardless, it’s a huge triumph for EA’s series, which has been going head-to-head with Call of Duty whenever both franchises launched in similar periods of the calendar year. The obvious difference is that Call of Duty is an annual series, while Battlefield is not.

To illustrate the point further, Black Ops 7’s position in fifth place is the lower a Call of Duty game has found itself since 2008, when Call of Duty: World at War ranked at six.

Back in December last year, Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot stated that the Call of Duty franchise was “underperforming” in 2025 due to various reasons, among which includes stronger competition from the like of Battlefield 6 and community burnout.

Battlefield 6 was released in October 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S while Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 arrived in November 2025.
