Rumour — Starfield PS5 Version & DLC Shown Off Behind Closed Doors, Space Travel Set To Be Improved

Bethesda has reportedly showcased Starfield behind close doors to offer a glimpse at what’s to come for the sci-fi RPG, which includes the long-rumoured PS5 version, a Nintendo Switch 2 edition, and space flight improvements.

According to WindowsCentral’s Jez Cordon, the PS5 and Switch 2 versions of Starfield are set to launch in 2026, with Bethesda having made some optimisations for “low power” devices including handhelds. Furthermore, Cordon stated that some sources have indicated that the new Starfield expansion was due to launch this year, but Microsoft felt comfortable delaying it until the first half of next year due to Grand Theft Auto VI’s recent delay and the company’s busy holiday period.

There are however varying reports when it comes to Starfield’s future content, particular the scale of the upgrade. The report notes that some have downplayed the size of the overhaul, dismissing claims of a “Cyberpunk 2.0 moment” for Starfield. Other people have proven more optimistic about what’s coming to the game.

In regards to improvements to space flight, it is suggested that Starfield will distance itself from the load-screen heavy systems and offer a more free-form and continues experience, which have been facilitated by some technical enhancements to the Creation Engine.

A PS5 version of Starfield has been rumoured for some time now, and in October NateTheHate claimed it wouldn’t be made official until 2026, which looks to be the case now that The Game Awards are behind us and 2025 is almost at an end. Furthermore, a report on MP1st from earlier in the year stated that Starfield will launch for Sony’s latest home console in Spring 2026 alongside the game’s second DLC.
