Lenovo Legion Go 2 with SteamOS to debut as soon as next month, according to a new leak

Not long after the release of the Windows version, it looks like the Lenovo Legion Go 2 with SteamOS is coming soon. A new leak has suggested that, much like with the Legion Go S, Lenovo is planning to release an alternative model of the Go 2 with Valve’s operating system pre-installed.
For those who don’t know, the Lenovo Legion Go 2 launched in October, with the most affordable version retailing at $1,099.99. That makes it one of the most expensive Steam Deck alternatives on the market, more so than even the similarly pricey ROG Xbox Ally X and MSI Claw 8 AI+. Admittedly, it does have some pretty powerful specs, with an AMD Ryzen Z2 processor powering elite performance, 2TB of storage, and a monster 74Wh battery, but the Windows operating system is still a sticking point for many potential users.
The new leak, courtesy of Windows Latest, suggests that Lenovo is planning on revealing the Legion Go 2 with SteamOS at CES in January 2026. That timeline makes sense, given that the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS arrived just a few months after the original and proved more popular with multiple reviewers thanks to the user-friendly nature of Valve’s software compared to the unoptimized experience of using Windows 11 on a handheld.
This latest update caps off a less-than-ideal year for Microsoft in the handheld arena, despite the success of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Still, it’s hardly surprising, as while the tech giant has slightly improved the Windows 11 experience with the introduction of the Xbox Full Screen Experience, the consensus from most handheld users is that SteamOS is still significantly more suited to the handheld form factor.
I’m at the point where I’d only buy a handheld if it offers SteamOS, both because of the usability factor and because it’s easier to download and play my favorite picks from our guide to the best Steam Deck games than the Windows equivalent.
While the new leak points to a CES 2026 reveal, we still don’t have any indication of when the Legion Go 2 with SteamOS might launch or, more importantly, how much it might cost. Given that the new information points to the SteamOS version packing the same hardware as the Windows 11 model, we’d anticipate a similar price point, but we won’t know for sure until Lenovo is willing to share more details.
