Xbox Exec Teases ‘Exciting’ Plans For 2026 When Asked About OG Xbox Titles & Game Pass

We’ve already heard about how Xbox is planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the brand in a big way next year, and Xbox architect Jason Ronald has been discussing this more in a new interview with the BBC in the UK.
Ronald’s interview was mainly about the ROG Xbox Ally and why now was a good time to create a handheld in partnership with ASUS, but the host couldn’t resist asking a separate question about whether more original Xbox games would arrive on Xbox Game Pass in the future.
The Xbox exec didn’t want to answer the question, but wasn’t willing to outright deny it either:
Host: “The child me would be so unhappy if I didn’t press you on this point, you know? Are you going to bring more original Xbox games to Game Pass in the future?”
Jason Ronald: “So, what I will say is, I can’t announce anything today, but in 2026 it’s the 20th anniversary of Xbox and we want to celebrate the great legacy and history that we have with Xbox, as well as defining the future for where the Xbox ecosystem is going. So, I can’t confirm or deny what you’re asking, but stay tuned [as] we have a lot of exciting things to share next year.”
It’s hard to know what to take away from this from a backwards compatibility / Xbox Game Pass perspective, but it’s surely good news that Ronald didn’t “deny” the question — who knows what might be in store for 2026?
Some are taking his mention about “defining the future for where the Xbox ecosystem is going” as a tease that we’ll be getting at least one major hardware reveal next year as well, with some speculating that it’s the big new Xbox console.
Whatever the case may be, it sounds like we’ve got an exciting 2026 in store for us as Xbox fans!
