Todd Howard Talks Progress On Elder Scrolls 6 And Teases ‘Other Things We’re Doing’

The main takeaway from this new GQ interview is that The Elder Scrolls 6, while clearly being in active development, is “still a long way off”. Howard mentioned how he doesn’t want “fans to feel anxious” and so he’s making it clear that patience is needed – it sounds like we’re still looking at multiple years before it’s ready to go.

Nevertheless, apparently they just had a “big play test” for ES6 inside of the studio, so it’s coming along to some degree.

Finally, Howard teased that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be in line for a shadow drop when it does release. He mentioned how the shadow drop of Oblivion Remastered “worked out well”, but didn’t commit to doing the same thing for ES6.

“I like to just announce stuff and release it. My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.

You shadow-dropped Oblivion: Remastered in April. Could you actually do that with The Elder Scrolls 6?

You might say that was a test run. It worked out well.”
