Airlock Games Is A New Studio Formed By Ex-MultiVersus Staff, Announces Horror Sci-Fi Game As Its First Project

Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman, who served as production director and technical director, respectively, on MultiVersus, have formed a new studio titled Airlock Games.

Airlock Games’ first project is titled What the Stars Forgot, and takes the form of a science-fiction horror title inspired by Star Trek and The Terror. The game will feature a retro 16-bit visual look and is set to launch via Steam early access later this year, and can be supported now on Kickstarter.

Speaking in a joint statement, Fischer and Feldman commented:

We’ve spent years working on high-profile AAA titles, but we missed the wonderful, reckless creativity of more focused games. It’s a space where we can focus on providing new experiences that interest us both as players and developers. We’re so excited to have the freedom to take creative risks, push boundaries, and tell stories that just aren’t feasible for AAA productions.

The press release notes that Airlock Games’ business model focusses on producing smaller games with maximum efficiency, possibly in response to the complex nature of developing AAA games. Fischer and Feldman have over 45 years of experience between them, and hope to leverage this to “recapture the creative risk and innovation of the golden age of games.” The studio hopes to provide a flexible and experimental working space that allows them to produce games within a year.

MultiVersus was released for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in May 2024, but had benefited from an extensive Beta and Early Access period that ran from July 2022 to June 2023. Post-launch content included additional characters and stages, as well as numerous balance changes for its extensive cast. Season 5 was the final content drop for the game before servers were closed down for good in May 2025.
