Netflix Is Reportedly Working On A Crash Bandicoot Animated Series

It may not be the comeback fans have wanted, but Crash Bandicoot is reportedly set to make a return in the form of an animated series from streaming giant Netflix.
While Sony’s one-time marsupial mascot was riding high on the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and the brilliant Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a new game has continued to remain elusive.
However, according to a report on What’s On Netflix, the company has been “quietly developing” an animated series based on Crash Bandicoot alongside WildBrain Studios, who was responsible for Sonic Prime. Nothing else has been confirmed at the point, so treat it as a rumour for the time being. However, Netflix has provided a stomping ground for Crash Bandicoot in the past, as he was featured in Skylanders Academy between 2016 — 2018.

While we’re on the subject of Crash Bandicoot, earlier this year Shuji Utsumi, a former vice president of Sony back in the 1990s, revealed he once pitched the idea of a movie based on the platforming franchise to various movie studios. However, he was given the cold shoulder as they didn’t consider video games serious enough, comparing them to “a toy business.”
As for the future of the Crash Bandicoot video game series, gaming historian Liam Robertson said back in August 2024 that Toys for Bob was working on a brand new entry in the franchise, but it was ultimately cancelled by Activision due to the publisher wanting to put more resources into live service games.
