Resident Evil Requiem First-Person Mode Is Likely To Be Option Of Choice For Western Gamers

The director on Resident Evil Requiem has said that fans in the west are likely to plump for the game’s first-person viewpoint due them having grown up on various first-person shooters such as DOOM.

Speaking with Denfaminicogamer, Koshi Nakanishi feels that Japanese gamers are more likely to opt for third-person due to being more familiar with major RPGs such as Dragon Quest, and indeed have done so for the game’s demo at Tokyo Game Show (with western players choosing first-person for the GameCom demo). “I think those kinds of differences are significant,” he noted.

Despite this, Nakanishi-san did note that the gaming landscape has changed and that many younger Japanese players are playing more first-person titles such as Minecraft and Apex Legends.

Speaking in a separate interview with TheGamer, Nakanishi alongside producer Masato Kunazawa revealed that the mysterious hooded man seen in the Resident Evil Requiem trailers is not a returning character, but someone new to the franchise. Nakanishi also revealed that the game’s bosses will challenge the player’s wits and not simply their shooting abilities, putting them in line more with earlier titles in the series like Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil Requiem is slated for release on February 27, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
