Avalanche Studios Plans To Close Its Liverpool Office As Part Of Restructuring In Its Workforce
Avalanche Studios has revealed in an official statement that it is reducing it workforce, impacting its various studios across the globe including the Liverpool, which will be closed as a result of the restructuring process.
Speaking in a statement, Avalanche revealed that its officers in Malmo and Stockholm will be affected by the workforce reduction, which comes after the company’s in-development title, Contraband, was cancelled by Microsoft among other titles including the Perfect Dark reboot.
In light of current challenges to our business and the industry, we have throughly received how to best ensure Avalanche Studios Group’s long-term success. This review ha led us to the difficulty conclusion that we must make changes to our staffing and locations. As a result, we are proposing to close our Liverpool studio, and to initiative a collective consultation process, as required by UK law. This will impact all Avalanchers in Liverpool.

The changes will also impact our other studio locations in Malmo and Stockholm, where we will reduce our workforce and restructure the teams to address our games’ needs. Our immediate focus is to offer full support to all Avalanchers during this challenging time. Despite these changes, we remain deeply committed to providing amazing games to our passionate player communities.
Back in 2024, Avalanche Studios revealed that it had laid off 50 developers and shuttering its Montreal and New York offices, effectively removing its presence in North America.
A few years ago, the co-founder of Avalanche Studios, Christofer Sandberg, revealed that the company was developing an Iron Man game for two years before it was scrapped. According to Sandberg, the project was going to be an open-world game and was cancelled in 2012 due to ‘company politics.’
