Hogwarts Legacy Gets Surprise Xbox Play Anywhere Support, Over Two Years Since Release

Well, well, well!

It’s been well over two years since Hogwarts Legacy first arrived on Xbox Series X and Series S back in early 2023, and yet it’s suddenly just received Xbox Play Anywhere support – one of the biggest surprises the program has ever seen.

As you probably know, Xbox Play Anywhere is the name of the program that lets you buy a game on your Xbox console and get the PC version for free, and that’s exactly what’s happening with Hogwarts Legacy as of today.

You can see the proof on both the Hogwarts Legacy Xbox Store page (look for the Xbox Play Anywhere banner underneath the name), as well as in the screenshot below, which shows Hogwarts Legacy appearing in my personal list of “installable” and “owned” games on the Xbox PC app.

So, the good news is that if you already own Hogwarts Legacy on either Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you should now have access to an entirely free PC version as well. The only potential catch is with the Xbox One version, as that one doesn’t have the Xbox Play Anywhere banner on the Xbox Store – so just keep that in mind.

As for why they’re suddenly adding Xbox Play Anywhere support right now? That’s anyone’s guess, although it seems likely that it’s something to do with the ROG Xbox Ally and trying to provide as many XPA titles for that device as possible ahead of its launch in mid-October.

There’s always the potential that they’re gearing up to bring Hogwarts Legacy to Xbox Game Pass as well, so let’s keep an eye out over the next few days and weeks just in case – we’ll let you know if it ends up getting announced!
