Tomb Raider Live-Action Series Casts Sophie Turner As Lara Croft

Variety has confirmed Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series has cast Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner as gaming icon Lara Croft, Phoebe Waller-Bridge heads the show as co-showrunner along with Chad Hodge.

Sophie Turner will be the latest actress to portray the legendary gaming icon. Lara Croft has had her time in the spotlight with three previous live-action adaptations. Angelina Jolie was the first to take on the role for two successful adaptations, followed by Alicia Vikander, who portrayed Lara as Crystal Dynamics’ 2013 reboot version of the character.

“I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,” Waller-Bridge said. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and is as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…”

Sophie Turner made a big splash in her breakout role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and was later cast as the young Jean Grey in Marvel’s X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men Dark Phoenix.
