Digital Foundry ‘Just Can’t Recommend’ Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater On Xbox Series S
Late last week, we took an early look at Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and its performance across Xbox Series X|S, with confirmation that Series X is the only Xbox version to have a 60FPS mode. Well, the folks over at Digital Foundry have now released a deeper dive on the game across all console versions – and the team “just can’t recommend Series S”.
This is due to various major cutbacks on Microsoft’s budget console, which include a resolution range that starts at 540p, frame rate drops under 30FPS and some very pixelated effects; resulting in an experience that’s a significant drop below the Series X and PS5 versions.
Thankfully, it’s better news for Xbox Series X players. Konami has delivered a version very similar to its PS5 counterpart here, and in terms of performance, the Series X version actually wins out more often than not. Here’s how the team summarises its tech review:
“Rounding out our MGS Delta coverage we turn to the Xbox versions. Series X release puts in a smoother overall 60fps experience next to the PS5 consoles – though it does demand leaning on VRR display technology to enjoy to the most extreme. Series S is a 30fps-only affair with significant cutbacks to consider though, and as such might be one to swerve if other means to play the game are available.”
So, yeah, DF is basically saying that if you can avoid the Series S version then MGS Delta is definitely worth playing on another platform – but of course, the game is still present and playable on the budget Xbox if that’s the only console available. The reviews have been pretty good as well – we’ll chuck a link to our roundup on those down below.
