Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater Runs Worse On PS5 Pro Compared To Standard PS5 Performance Mode, Has More Shimmering

The folks at Digital Foundry have put Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater under the microscope, revealing some surprising details about the PS5 Pro and PS5 versions of the game, notably how the former actually runs worse in some aspects when stacked against the standard console in Performance Mode.

One of the main disappointments in regards to PS5 Pro is that PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), often “resolves details to a Lower resolution overall.” DF offers a comparison image between PS5 Performance Mode, PS5 Graphics Mode, and PS5 Pro during an early jungle sequence, which puts them at 864p, 1412p, 756p respectively during that specific moment.

There’s also an increase in shimmer all around on global illumination during interior sequences on the PS5 Pro, more so than the standard PS5. “This is without doubt a weak point for Delta’s delivery on PS5 and does need addressing, but PSSR does appear to accentuate the problem, adding more flicker, more temporal instability to areas where there’s no issue on base PS5,” notes DF.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater launches on August 28, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. As previously reported, the game will include a fully remade version of the Guy Savage mini-game courtesy of PlatinumGames, which was an Easter egg in the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

In addition, the producers behind MGS Delta: Snake Eater have said that if the game is a success they may consider ‘lots of other games in the future,’ presumably referring to possible remakes or even continuing the franchise with a new entry.
