Shenmue III Enhanced Coming To PS5 With Improved Graphics & Performance, Classic Camera Mode & Gameplay Tweaks

Shenmue III Enhanced is coming to PS5, PC, Nintendo (it wasn’t specified which system), and Xbox Series X/S, ININ Games and Ys Net have announced. No release date was announced, but it was confirmed existing owners on PS4 and PC will be entitled to an upgrade path.

Billed as the ‘ultimate way to way to experience Ryo’s story,’ Shenmue III Enhanced will feature a plethora of improvements, including spruced up visuals, faster load times, and more refined character models and environments thanks to a 4K resolution uplift. Meanwhile, the city of Niaowu will benefit from increased NPC density, allowing for a more immersive experience as more characters now populate the streets making it feel more lived in, and there’s also a Classic Camera mode to mimic the original Shenmue and its sequel.

Gameplay has also been tweaked for various quality-of-life improvements, including optional stamina system adjustments, health restoration before fighting, and reduced money barriers that affords smoother progression (the original Shenmue III was notorious for blocking progression by requiring Ryu to earn a lot of cash at points).

Other improvements including streamlined navigation and improved interactions, with cutscenes and conversations now available to skip, plus expanded quick-time event timing windows.

The original release of Shenmue III arrived on PS4 and PC in November 2019. You can read our review here.
