Switch gets some love from King of the Hill and Kaiju No. 8

The Switch might be 8 years old by now, but millions of people are still plugging away on the platform every single day. Switch has long since become a part of day-to-day life for many, and has also cemented itself as an instantly recognizable part of pop culture. We see that reflected in all different places, and today we have some recent examples that popped up in the world of animation.

As some of you know, King of the Hill has made its return with a brand-new season recently. You can catch Season 14 on Hulu/Disney+ right now, and if you have plans on watching, you might want to keep an extra close eye on episode 5, “New Ref in Town.”

While the Switch is never mentioned or played, you can clearly see it sitting on the table in the image above. In the new season, Bobby Hill and Jospeh Gribble are roommates. Looks like the two get along famously in their apartment, and apparently they enjoy some Switch sessions from time to time!

If you’re more of an anime fan, don’t you worry. The Switch has also gotten some screen-time in a big series right now, and it was even more present than the quick King of the Hill Easter egg.

The image above comes from Ep. 17, Season 2 of Kaiju No. 8, which is titled “I Want to Be Strong.” The character in the scene is Gen Narumi, the seventh captain of the First Division of the Defense Force. While he’s know to be “Japan’s Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant,” he also spends plenty of time gaming when he’s not beating down kaiju.

Gaming has actually been a big part of Narumi’s story. When we first meet the character earlier in the series, we see him hanging out in his quarters playing something on a game console. A few episodes later we get to the scene above, which shows Narumi enjoying a Switch Lite on the go. We even get a peek at the game he’s playing, but we’re not sure it’s a real-life game. We could be wrong on that, so if that screenshot above sticks out to you, let us know what game you think it is!
