Ex-PlayStation Boss Shawn Layden Gets ‘Dreamcast Flashbacks’ When ‘Watching What Xbox Has Been Doing’

Speaking during an interview with GI.biz, Shawn Layden, the former Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has said he gets flashbacks to the Dreamcast days when observing what Microsoft is currently doing with Xbox hardware.

Watching what Xbox has been doing recently, I do get Dreamcast flashbacks. I think Sega realised they just were better off being a software house. I think Microsoft is in that same sort of fork in the road. And I don’t think their hardware offering is persuasive enough to make up the ground they’ve lost.

Layden also touched base on a number of topics during the interview, including subscription models similar to Xbox Game Pass, which he admittedly is not a fan of, referring to them as a ‘danger.’ In addition, the former PlayStation executive stated that video game prices should have increased on a gradual basis with every console generation.
