Katsuhiro Harada Says It Would Be ‘Cool’ To Show Off The Incomplete Tekken X Street Fighter At Some Point

Tekken series boss Katsuhiro Harada has said that he’s hoping to be able to show off what progress was made on Tekken x Street Fighter, the crossover brawler that was announced alongside Street Fighter x Tekken at San Diego Comic-Con 15 years ago.

Speaking Destruction, Harada-san was quizzed about the status of the project, which was developed to around 30% complete and put on indefinite hold some years ago.

It’s hard to say if that’s even a thing. I mean, it depends on what people are wanting as well. That said, I would like to show people what we already have. That would be cool if we could do that. We were 30% into development, so fingers crossed.

Tekken x Street Fighter would have seen characters from both franchises duking it out using the 3D fighting mechanics of Bandai Namco’s brawler, whereas the 2012 crossover effort Street Fighter x Tekken used the template of Capcom’s own franchise. We’ve already got an idea of how Tekken x Street Fighter could have worked — at least as far as Street Fighter characters making the transition to 3D — as Akuma appeared in Tekken 7 to much fanfare.

The latest entry in the Tekken series, Tekekn 8, was released in January 2024 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is currently half-way through its second season, two more DLC fighters set to release by the end of the year: Armor King and Miary Zo.
