Roundup: Here’s What The Previews Say About Xbox Horror Title Cronos: The New Dawn
Original Story: Bloober Team is riding a high right now off the back of its recent Silent Hill 2 remake, and despite that one not landing on Xbox yet, its next title is locked and loaded for the Microsoft platform. Yep, Cronos: The New Dawn will launch on Xbox Series X|S, and a fresh round of previews suggest it’ll be well worth playing.
Over the last few days, some major outlets have been hands on with this Xbox horror title from the Polish studio – so we’re here to gather those previews up and give you a flavour of Cronos: The New Dawn ahead of its upcoming launch. This one is supposedly launching in 2025, but we don’t have a locked-in release date just yet!
Without further ado:
“With Cronos, it feels like Bloober Team has cherry-picked from the best of the genre and fashioned a survival horror beast of its own. From what I’ve played so far, the team has created something that’s incredibly faithful to the formula, which isn’t a complaint – I love this genre. I’m just hopeful the full game spends more time celebrating the unique combat loop and original storytelling so that Cronos can form its own identity, rather than merging into the pack.”
“After a few hours with Bloober Team’s next game, the sci-fi horror Cronos: The New Dawn, questions about the studio’s capabilities are virtually an afterthought for me. I’m no longer wondering if the team can set and achieve lofty goals. Cronos has impressed in the two hours I’ve played it so far, and though I still have questions and will reserve my final judgment for the full game later this year, it’s clear the team has found its secret weapon in how it has designed Cronos’ combat gameplay.”
“Some things are only scary the first few times you experience them. The upside of that for Cronos: The New Dawn is that, if you’ve never played a horror game before, Cronos will probably be one of the most terrifying experiences of your life. But if you’re an avid fan of the horror game genre – or even just an occasional one – then equally, at least from what I’ve seen so far, without a few more fresh ideas Cronos might not feel like the most brilliant use of your time.”
“On a personal level, I find it incredibly refreshing for a sci-fi horror game to have a non-space setting. I also haven’t been able to get the image of some of the in-game monsters out of my mind – the way some of them slithered across the floor and absorbed another to become even more grotesque was truly haunting in the best way. Cronos: The New Dawn is so compelling that, against all my desire for self-preservation, I have no choice but to keep it in my sights ahead of its release later this year.”
“With only two hours of playtime, I’ve just started to scratch the surface of what Cronos: The New Dawn has to offer. […] The game already looks exciting and feels like a welcome addition to Bloober Team’s impressive output. Silent Hill 2 from them was one of my favourite games of 2024, and while this is their own IP, featuring a world unlike any I’ve experienced, the core of the game has already sunk its teeth into me. I can’t wait to see more.”
“Even though I’m still in the dark about Cronos: The New Dawn in a few key areas, the two hours I spent with it were more than enough to secure both my confidence and excitement in Bloober’s latest IP. Silent Hill 2 might have shown that Bloober can breathe new life into a classic, but Cronos looks like it’ll prove it can make one all its own.”
