Identity security firm Entrust has partnered with PlaySafe ID to improve player safety by preventing cheaters, bots, and predators from accessing games.
Designed with privacy in mind, PlaySafe ID will issue a verified digital ID that confirms a user’s identity without revealing personal details.
The collaboration will also integrate Entrust’s identity verification to secure the sign-up process for players globally.
As part of the partnership, users can create a PlaySafe ID by completing a verification process powered by Entrust, which involves scanning a government ID and recording a short selfie video.
Entrust confirms the ID’s authenticity and matches it to the user’s face to prevent fraud or deepfakes. Once verified, users receive an anonymised PlaySafe ID for matchmaking in games with other verified players.
Bullish on fair play
The partnership helps game providers get ready for the upcoming Protection of Children Codes under the Online Safety Act, effective July 2025, which requires platforms to protect children from harmful content.
PlaySafe ID said it is already in talks with gaming platforms, with the first integrations expected to roll out later this year.
“Gaming should be fun, fair, and safe for everyone,” said PlaySafe ID CEO Andrew Wailes. “Our partnership with Entrust ensures that our user verification process is both secure and scalable, and also aligns with the values of frictionless user experience and privacy.
“Their technology will be instrumental in helping us build a future where fair play is the standard, and cheating, fraud and harmful behaviour are no longer tolerated.”
Entrust head of compliance for identity verification Samuel Steg commented: “We’re proud to join PlaySafe ID in their mission to make online gaming a safer place. “Fraudulent activity online continues to grow both in scope and sophistication, and gaming environments are no exception.
He added: “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to building a safer digital future and promoting trust, fairness, and safety within digital spaces.”
