The Lego Game Boy finally has a price tag, and it’s cheaper than I expected
Nintendo isn’t new to collaborations with Lego, having sets for numerous IPs and even one for the NES console. Well, now the Japanese company is giving its OG handheld the same treatment with the Lego Game Boy, and it’s fair to say that this is an exciting set for longtime Nintendo fans. The Game Boy is an iconic bit of hardware, arguably being one of the most important videogame consoles in history, so you can be sure I’ll proudly display this blocky delight next to my 80s relic.
The initial announcement earlier this year featured little more than a 15-second clip to serve as a tease, but we finally know what it looks like, with its page ready on the Lego website. To the surprise of no one, it’s a truly glorious set; not only does it have the console in blocky form, but there are also two cartridges, one for Super Mario Land and another for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, two of the best Game Boy games, while building this thing.
We even finally have a price for the Lego Game Boy, and you know what? It’s cheaper than I expected, coming in at $59.99 / £54.99, but the reason it’s so much cheaper than the NES playset, which costs $229.99, is because it only has 421 pieces, compared to the 2,646 of the NES, so this is certainly an easier project to build, though I suspect it will be finicky in places.
According to its page on the Lego website, pre-orders for the new set are open, and it’s due to ship from October 1, 2025, so you don’t have too long to wait to add this to your collection.
Besides consoles and Mario, Nintendo has numerous other collaborations with Lego, including some fun Animal Crossing Lego sets, such as Nook’s Cranny and KK’s Concert. There’s even a Zelda Lego set for the Great Deku Tree, and I can only imagine that this is the first in what’s likely to be quite a long line of Lego for The Legend of Zelda.
