While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
DC Worlds Collide
A squad-based RPG with a superhero twist, DC Worlds Collide is out now on iOS and Android, bringing more than 70 familiar faces and a comic-inspired story to portable screens.
The game has been developed by Warner Bros’ San Francisco studio, with the team implementing more than a dozen game modes in time for launch. The narrative has been inspired by 2013 comics Trinity War and Forever Evil, which focused on the Justice League and on DC’s villains respectively.
Raising Reincarnated SwordMage
Lunosoft’s idle RPG Raising Reincarnated SwordMage thrusts players into far-from-idle fantasy tale, with themes of truth and betrayal, revenge, and facing down former allies – all with a time-travel twist.
Players can make their way through the 64-chapter story by mastering a tactical combat system with close-ranged swordfights and distanced magic casting, customising and upgrading as they make their way to the endgame.
Slither Blast
Rollic’s Slither Blast is a snake-based puzzle game about sending correctly coloured serpents into matching holes. Logic-based levels require players to consider how to reach those holes without blocking any other slitherer’s path, sending them forward one at a time and in the perfect order.
Dino Quake
Cartoon dinosaurs Mina and Kiwi are back with Neutronized’s Dino Quake remake, an arcade-style indie platformer all about stopping an alien invasion. The 2011 version’s multiplayer experience has also been pulled from the Jurassic to modern day, meaning players can tackle this title alone or with a friend in local co-op.
New dinosaurs can be unlocked as players progress through the game, but who exactly they’ll unlock depends on their decisions while playing.
Subnautica
Premium game Subnautica offers players the chance to dive into an underwater adventure on an alien planet, comprised of an open-world ocean full of undersea creatures, volcanoes and cave systems.
For those players preferring to take in the sights of this new blue planet without the stress of oxygen limits and a hunger system, developer Unknown Worlds has implemented Freedom and Creative modes to take off the pressure.
Crayola Scribble Scrubbie Pets+
Apple Arcade’s latest offering takes a top-selling Crayola toy line into the subscription service’s digital world with Crayola Scribble Scrubbie Pets+.
Developed by Red Games, this title features more than 90 pets to feed, groom and wash, even if that pet’s a unicorn.
The Men of Yoshiwara: KIKUYA
The Men of Yoshiwara: KIKUYA has made its way to mobile after almost a decade, but exclusively for Crunchyroll subscribers. Developed by Dogenzaka Lab, this visual novel allows players to live out their romantic fantasies on an island full of anime men.
