Resident Evil Survival Unit welcomes back fan-favorite characters

Last week, we had a surprise announcement that there’s a new Resident Evil game on the way, a mobile strategy game, to be exact. Well, after the official Resident Evil Survival unit showcase, we have even more information on what to expect from the game.

The initial surprise announcement of a new Resident Evil game came from Shinji Hashimoto, the co-creator of the legendary Kingdom Hearts series, serving as executive producer for the game. It’s just Hashimoto who’s onboard for this project, either, as two studios, Joycity and Aniplex, and of course, Capcom, are helping out, too.

Details may have been sparse since Resident Evil Survival Unit’s reveal, but the showcase divulged more information on what you can expect from the Resident Evil game. For starters, it gives you a different perspective than what you typically get from a Resident Evil game. You have a base of operations known as the ‘Mansion’, where you prepare for everything that the game entails.

Naturally, you can expect to see some familiar faces, including iconic Resident Evil characters like Leon and Claire. Characters from all across the RE world come together in this game. It’s not just the heroes making a comeback, however, as some notable creatures are present in the game, too, along with some new beasts, such as Mortem, which appears to resemble a vampire. It also has a crucial role in the story.

The story of Resident Evil Survival Unit is parallel to the main games, unfolding at a similar time to Resident Evil 2 and 3. The game features unique traits for the characters, along with some skills that can make them more or less effective in certain situations. Some characters, like Jill, for instance, excel in combat due to proficiency in weaponry.

Thanks to the showcase, we know that Resident Evil Survival Unit is due to release by the end of 2025, or “begin service,” according to Hashimoto, and is coming to both iOS and Android devices.
