RUMOR: Switch 2 sells 5 million in its first month (UPDATE)
We know for a fact that the Switch 2 sold 3.5 million in its first 4 days. That was enough to make it the fastest-selling piece of gaming hardware ever. Now, roughly one month after launch, it seems the Switch 2 has more than held on to that record.
Rumor has it that Nintendo had updated their official investor relations portal with a new sales stat for the Switch 2, but the data has since been removed. With that being the case, we’ll stress that the following number isn’t 100% confirmed. Before the posting was yanked, Nintendo had shared that the Switch 2 sold through 5 million units worldwide in 26 days.
If that figure is correct, that would mean the Switch 2 is still holding on to the record of fastest-selling game hardware ever. To put things in perspective, the original Switch sold over 5 million units in 4 months, while the PS5 hit that milestone in 2.5 months. Thanks to the supply Nintendo is getting out there and the staggering demand, the Switch 2 has supposedly broken the PS5 record with ease.
UPDATE: Analyst David Gibson reached out to Nintendo for comment on this matter, and they confirmed that the sales information was incorrect. You can read their full statement below.
“It appears that test data prepared for a web site update was unintentionally made publicly accessible. Temporarily visible data was for testing purposes only, and is not accurate and not related to any sales result or projection of Switch 2.”
Gibson says that he believes the actual sales figures will be at 5.4 million for June 2025, but we won’t know until Nintendo releases their next wave of financial data on Aug. 1st, 2025.
