Former PlayStation exec says $80 price of games like Mario Kart can be justified by “hours and hours played with just one purchase”
Yeah I dunno… I think people judge a game by the amount of content the developers made for the game! So an example is I could play Tetris for 100s of hours but it doesn’t mean I want to pay 80 dollars for Tetris.
I think they DID give us the content though! Racing online it’s constantly different because there’s like 200 tracks between the main tracks, so it’s constantly changing! The free roam is a whole new mode they never included with Mario kart where you can hunt for collectibles.
I think people are just reacting how they reacted to dungeons in Zelda. “The races aren’t the traditional style of racing!” “The dungeons aren’t traditional dungeons!”
Yeah but what you get is so much more content with the shrines (intermissions).
I do think if you got to go around the tracks a couple of times people might like the intermissions better. It would balance it out! I’m guessing there’s a strong chance that’s in an update since it’s general feedback lol.
That or just the traditional tracks pop up more so it’s in the rotation as well!
I also think consistent free updates to the game no man sky style, or how Nintendo did with the Mario sports titles or Splatoon would really add to the perceived value of the game and keep people playing!
I love that game though! I think they did something really unique!
But I don’t know if this hours played thing is how many consumers perceive value! It’s how corporations do. If we’re playing something for hours and hours and they’re not getting money then they view it as a flaw in their business model! Example I don’t really know if Mario Party is worth 80. I just don’t know if the production costs in making that game says 80 for a lot of people! You can definitely play it for 100s of hours, but it’s not GTA. They’re thinking hours played but I think most consumers are thinking manpower and talent required to make the thing!
And in reality everything is going up in price. Lunch is never less than 20 dollars now! So 80 is probably the new 60 unfortunately!
