While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem
Team-based tactical RPG Marvel Mystic Mayhem has brought iconic superheroes and villains to the mobile realm.
Having achieved over five million pre-registrations, NetEase is distributing Mysterium Coins, Shadow Keys, the telepath Psylocke and more to players as an early bonus as they set about battling baddies as Captain America, Scarlet Witch and others.
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby
Japanese revenue goliath Uma Musume: Pretty Derby has made the move overseas after four years in Japan, where this horse girl anime racer has already racked up $2.6 billion in mobile player spending.
Cygames’ hit sees players scout for trainee runners in its gacha, then helping them hone their skills on the track before they compete in races of up to 18 horse girls at a time.
Cygames also landed on last week’s list with Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, which has already earned over $20 million.
Kingdomino
Transforming Bruno Cathala’s award-winning board game into a fully fledged mobile title, Meeple Corp’s Kingdomino tasks tactical minds with dictating tile-based domino positioning and facing off against opponents for control of key resources.
Balancing risk and reward, players can use mountains or forests to their advantage while competing in single-player and multiplayer modes. There’s also cross-play between PC and mobile versions.
LEGO Fortnite Expeditions
Now that Fortnite’s back on the US App Store, fans can enroll at Supernova Academy, suit up and save the day in LEGO Fortnite Expeditions – whether on Android, iOS or any other eligible platform.
The new mode is a PVE experience leaning into Fortnite’s LEGO licencing deal, where teams of four can join together to take on co-op missions, earn rewards and put a stop to Mask Maker Daigo’s nefarious plans.
How 2 Escape
In a rare case of compulsive cross-play, Breakfirst Games’ How 2 Escape is a cooperate puzzle adventure where deciphering clues requires multiple platforms.
The game tasks a PC or console player with trying to escape from a submarine, discovering clues as they search for freedom. Meanwhile, a player on mobile can find solutions to those clues and report back with intel, helping their friend make their escape.
Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon
Once an Apple Arcade exclusive on mobile, Cornfox & Brothers’ Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon has broken out onto the standard App Store and Google Play, giving RPG fans the chance to take down hordes of monsters without the need for a subscription.
Phantom Tower
Roguelike game Phantom Tower sends players on a 100-floor quest towards power, fame and fortune. As is the nature of the genre, every attempt to reach the top offers a slightly different challenge, with players able to test out elements and unlock strange glyphs to help along the way.
Horien Studio has also added materials and gear so that players can grow stronger as they play, even if they end up back on floor one.
Monmate Master: Idle Adventure
Watt Games’ Monmate Master: Idle Adventure is the latest monster collector taking a twist on the genre, as titular Monmate creatures each have two forms: pet and furry. Sometimes animalistic and sometimes humanoid, these creatures can be used in battle or sent to help out back at camp in idle mode.
