Final Fantasy Tactics Remake Director Says Original Game’s Source Code No Longer Exists, Won’t Include War Of The Lions Content

The director of Final Fantasy Tactics — The Ivalice Chronicles has revealed that the source code the original PSOne classic no longer exists, and hence this remake was made possible “by sheer force.”

Speaking during an interview posted on the official Square Enix website, Kazutoyo Maehiro also revealed that the remake won’t implement content from Final Fantasy Tactics — The War of the Lions, which was an expanded version of the 1997 RPG released for the PSP, a decision made to preserve the experience of the original game.

“There were a number of major challenges, but all of them stemmed from the fact that the master data and source code from the original game no longer existed,” he commented. Maehiro-san added that the data wasn’t “mishandled or poorly managed,” but rather preserving it “wasn’t a normal thing to do at the time.” Therefore, the remake was developed “by sheer force.”
