The games industry is serious business. But games are supposed to be fun, too!
Occasionally, we’ll be rounding up some of the strange and entertaining announcements, posts and viral content from around the biz on a Friday.
The time usually reserved for announcements companies don’t want you to really see – we’ll inject some fun instead. Or just utter bemusement.
So without further ado….
Scopely gets the band together
Monopoly Go developer Scopely has just dropped its debut single “Just Trust The Process”. It’s apparently the first track in its upcoming album Artificial Brutality.
Nisha Majumdar is the lead guitarist and “art and world sensitivities” specialist, Hitesh P is on bass as well as the all-important “vibe and coding” virtuoso. Meanwhile, Ketan Velip is on drums and the band’s “creative resume enhancement” expert, with Shrungar D on vocals as the “advanced persuasion techniques” frontman”.
Apparently, his screams are so convincing, even the chatbots believe them. Sounds like the life of a journalist.
They say there’s actually no band and the single is AI-generated. Maybe that’s just a cover.
You can listen here.
By high demand (we’re unable to verify this), the second single is here.
Liquid Glass
Apple has invented, and I quote, a “software-based material” in “Liquid Glass”.
To steal a joke from an industry friend: “Apple heard that people wanted greater transparency from its business and they misunderstood.”
While I could describe what it is, I think these posts do it more justice:

This one reminds me of a story I was once told about a magazine ad that misprinted “counting calories”. (The ad ended up being a huge hit, but the company wasn’t allowed to reprint it).
Lastly: “Apple, you okay?”
Finnish summertime
Apparently the country of endless nights, Finland, is experiencing a peculiar event in June: the midnight sun.
Supercell reckons it has the solution for sleep: LinkedIn’s user agreement.
Have a good night.
Bonus content:
I was reminded recently of one of my favourite ever event keynotes (can you even rank these?).
Qualcomm’s keynote at CES 2013 was filled with everything you expect: Big Bird, Steve Ballmer, Dido playing over Maroon 5 live, Guillermo del Toro, and Desmond Tutu. It also has one of the ‘best’ opening lines from a CEO maybe ever.
You made it to the end. “Big ‘please clap’ energy.” (Credit: Mel Stefaniuk)
