Rovio is launching new game Angry Birds Bounce as an Apple Arcade exclusive on July 3rd.
The title is arriving more than three years after the series’ last mobile entry, Angry Birds Journey, but will only be available to Apple users signed up for its subscription service.
Though Rovio has released an Angry Birds game since its acquisition by Sega with 2024’s Angry Birds Showdown on YouTube Playables, Angry Birds Bounce is officially the first game in the series to be developed under Sega’s ownership.
Angry Birds with “a vertical twist”
Angry Birds Bounce is expected to feature the largest roster of characters in series history, including newcomers Gordon and Jo. Gordon was designed by Rovio’s Toronto studio and is Canadian-inspired, while Jo is the series’ first non-binary Angry Birds character.
The new title changes up the series’ staple slingshot with zig-zap movement and adds an arcade-style brick-breaker mechanic.
“Angry Birds Bounce reinvents the classic Angry Birds formula with a vertical twist, refreshing the gameplay while staying true to the brand’s DNA,” said Rovio’s Angry Birds Bounce game lead Bryan Cook.
“We are thrilled to bring this new experience exclusively to Apple Arcade, featuring the largest roster of Angry Birds characters ever, and we can’t wait to see our players’ reactions to this new title.”
Sega closed its $775 million acquisition of Rovio on August 18th, 2023 and quickly teased the “Segaverse”, followed by five crossover events between Sonic and Angry Birds games in early 2024.
Since then, the studios have teamed up on party battle royale Sonic Rumble, with Rovio effectively serving as the “go-to market strategist”. The game has seen multiple delays, but Sega still aims to release it in 2025.
