Swedish games studio Turborilla has appointed Kawlee veteran John Wright as its new CEO effective immediately.

The move has seen Wright take over from former CEO and founder Tobias Andersson, who has stepped back into a board member role.

Wright will now lead the studio into its “next chapter” leveraging his near-15 years of games industry experience.

Ready to lead

Wright has previously held leadership roles at companies like Luna Labs and Kwalee. At the former, he was in a founding leadership position as the VP of operations, played an active role in Luna Lab’s acquisition by Unity, and helped to align teams and technology by leading the post-merger integration.

More recently, Wright worked as VP of mobile games at Kwalee, playing a key role in scaling the studio’s portfolio beyond the one billion installs milestone. He also led a global team of 180 people and was nominated for the TIGA Award for Outstanding Leadership in 2024.

Turborilla’s portfolio of games – including Mad Skills Motocross and Mad Skills BMX franchises – has achieved over 200 million downloads on mobile.

“I’m genuinely thrilled,” Wright told us at PocketGamer.biz.

“The company is fantastic, the team is strong and there’s an impressive legacy behind it. Being able to step into the CEO role while working remotely gives me the balance I need to stay fully present for my kids. It’s the ideal setup to stay deeply motivated, both as a leader and as a parent.”

Andersson commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome John Wright as our new CEO. John brings a wealth of leadership experience and a bold vision for the future, championing our guiding principles: come as you are, we have your back, and ship it.

“I am confident in stepping back into a board member position and handing over the reins, knowing he’ll lead Turborilla to new heights.”
