KFC is responsible for the sound design of at least one Cyberpunk 2077 weapon
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is coming to the Switch 2 on launch day, June 5th, 2025. The game is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and body modification. In it you’ll play as V, a cyberpunk mercenary, and take on the most powerful forces of the city in a fight for glory and survival. Not surprisingly those fights will include a lot of gunplay, and it turns out some of the weaponry you’ll use has a very surprising place of origin.
CD Projekt Red’s sound designer Sebastian Sagastume appeared at the Digital Dragons conference to talk about the unique methods that were used to create some of the audio behind Night City’s guns, and one element in particular owes itself to a very popular fast food chain. It all came together with a random midnight visit to a KFC.
“I wanted to ask the manager if I could buy five soda refills in exchange for them to stay quiet and kill the music for five minutes. They were like, ‘Okay, this is so weird, but whatever.’ Well, the main reason is because I wanted to record the soda dispenser that eventually became one of the weapons engines in Phantom Liberty. …usually the main rule that I have before recording is I wanted to find sources that organically reminded me of the weapon… namely, props and random sounds.”

With that story in mind, listen closely to the various weapons you come across in Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition when you kick the adventure off on Switch 2 later this week. You might end up hearing one that reminds you of your last trip trip to the Colonel (or any fast food joint with a soda dispenser, for that matter!).
