While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
Shogun Showdown
Pixel graphics and card-based battles collide in Roboatino’s Shogun Showdown, a feudal Japan-inspired procedurally generated game made available on mobile exclusively to Crunchyroll subscribers.
The move to mobile has naturally come with optimisations for touchscreen controls, but Shogun Showdown also offers controller support for those who prefer some old-fashioned tactile button mashing.
Lego Friends Heartlake Rush+
StoryToys has launched a new Apple Arcade edition of Lego Friends Heartlake Rush, aptly named Lego Friends Heartlake Rush+.
This child-friendly car racer sees players unlock cars, mix and match them with various characters and transform them into jet-powered vehicles with Zobo the robot, blasting through roads while dodging buses and roadblocks.
Kumome
A journey through five kingdoms and over 200 levels awaits in Yannis Benattia’s Kumome, out now on iOS. Notably, this puzzler can be played solo or co-op with PvP maps to test players’ collaborative strategising skills.
Astronaut Joe: Magnetic Rush
As the name implies, Lepton Labs’ Astronaut Joe: Magnetic Rush revolves around magnetism-based play, with titular Joe using spacesuits and superpowers to speedrun levels – bouncing, rolling and zapping to victory.
Gods vs Horrors
A roguelike overtly inspired by Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode, Oriol Cosp’s Gods vs Horrors is a roguelike card battler packed with mythological deities. It rewards players for strategic positioning of their cards to gain the upper hand, learning with each attempt on their way to saving the world.
