Doubling Pokemon GO’s Remote Raids is a move “years” in the making, say devs

As was revealed earlier this week, Pokémon GO will be doubling the number of daily remote raids for Trainers to hop in on. It was also made clear that this decision is a permanent one, which goes to show just how dedicated the devs are to making this change work.

The news of doubling daily remote raids surfaced shortly after Niantic revealed that their gaming division was sold off to Scopely. Not surprisingly, some have thought that it was Scopely who made the call to double up on daily remote raids. In an interview with Eurogamer, Senior Producer John Funtanilla says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This looks to be a permanent change, and given the timing, you’d be fair in assuming that this was a decision made by Scopely. However, in an interview with Eurogamer, senior producer John Funtanilla has said that the decision came from the team:

“…These are things we have looked at for years – we’ve looked at the data, we’ve looked at the community feedback. It’s entirely the leadership here, internally, and definitely 100 percent our decision to make these changes.

I’ve been at Niantic for a good while, I worked on Shadow Raids and it’s something we brought up at the time, we discussed it internally. Everything was towards investing in communities and making sure we were expanding that gameplay.”
