Grand Theft Auto VI Delay To 2026 ‘Has Seemed Inevitable For Months,’ Says Jason Schreier

Bloomberg journalist Jason Scherier has weighed in on the announcement that Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed into 2026, stating that the game slipping into next year has ‘seemed inevitable for months if not longer.’

Speaking on BlueSky, Schreier explained that no one at Rockstar who he has spoken to believed in GTA VI reaching its original Fall 2025 window.

Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer.

GTA VI is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Prior to the announcement today, publisher Take-Two had many times reaffirmed that the game would meet its Fall 2025 window, although it has emerged that the GTA VI requires additional polishing to meet the high expectations of fans.

Mike Ybarra, the ex-president of Blizzard, said back in February that he believes publishers would be willing to shift their own release dates to avoid clashing with Rockstar Games crime epic, stating ‘GTA6 is the king.’ With the game now pushed to May 2026, there’s bound to be a silent relief among publishers that there’s at least no longer a chance of releasing close to GTA 6 this fall.
