RUMOR: Dragon Quest creator accidentally confirms Chrono Trigger remake (UPDATE)
Napoli Comicon is taking place right now, and none other than Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii is at the big show to talk about a number of things. Apparently one of those things happens to be a project many have been dreaming for for years.
Countless games have gotten remakes and re-releases in recent years, but somehow Chrono Trigger hasn’t gotten that treatment. As one of the greatest RPGs of all-time, you’d think Square Enix would have tackled a full-on remake years ago, but that still hasn’t happened. Well, rumor has it the company is hard at work on such an effort right now.
Horii apparently let it slip at Napoli Comicon that Chrono Trigger is indeed getting a remake. His statement appears to have caused a bit of a kerfuffle, as this information hadn’t been made public anywhere else. This statement was followed by someone whispering something in Horii’s ear, and the conversation was steered away from Chrono Trigger immediately.
There’s a chance things have been lost in translation and the whole back-and-forth was a misunderstanding, so please take everything with a grain of salt. That said, hopefully this story ends up being true, and we can all look forward to revisiting Chrono Trigger in a brand-new way in the near future.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, this has turned out to be a case of misconstrued information. Sadly, nothing about a Chrono Trigger remake was actually said, with the story amounting to nothing more than a miscommunication.
