‘AI Will Make All Game Creators Unemployed’ In 50 Years, Says Nier’s Yoko Taro

Yoko Taro, the video game designer who served as director on Nier Automata, has said during an interview with Famitsu that he thinks AI technology will render all game creators unemployed in 50 years.

Speaking with the publication while promoting Hundred Taro-san, who famously wears masks during interviews due to his dislike of being photographed, painted a very grim picture of game development due to the application of AI in the decades to come.

I also think that AI will make all game creators unemployed. In 50 years, game creators may be treated like bards. I think that in the near future, we will move from an era where we have to imitate the style of our favorite creators to an era where we can have our favorite scenarios generated.

AI will determine the preferences of users and skillfully generate route branchings that they would want to read, and the recommendation capabilities will continue to improve.

AI has been a contentious topic the past few years or so as the technology continues to evolve and more game creators are applying it to their work.

Despite the suggestion that AI could reduce employment, Take-Two’s CEO paints a different picture, suggesting that its use could increase employment productivity, and maintained that the tech would not be able to great something on such a scale that it could be seen as a competitor to Grand Theft Auto.
