New PS5 System Software Update Adds Classic Console PS5 UI Designs, Audio Focus Immersion Features

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that its latest PS5 system software update will begin rolling out later this week, and among the highlights of the patch include the return of the retro-flavoured console designs for the PS5 UI, which were originally released as part of the PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebrations last year.

The latest PS5 firmware update will begin rolling out from April 24, 2025 in a phase schedule, and will allow for users to customise their UI with themes around the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Unsurprisingly, the return is down to ‘overwhelmingly positive response from our community.’

Beyond that, the Audio Focus option aims to increase immersion by allowing you to choose from various presets to amplify soft sounds to meet your hearing preferences. To enable this feature, head to Settings > Sound > Volume > Audio Focus, where you’ll find the following options:

  • Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
  • Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
  • Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
  • Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.

You’ll be prompted to download the new PS5 system software update as soon as it starts rolling out, so keep an eye on your console!
