Square Enix’s next mobile Final Fantasy game has a tentative release date in China, with Final Fantasy XIV Mobile listed for an August 29th launch.

Currently, the upcoming game is only present on the Chinese version of Apple’s App Store. It lists August 29th, 2025 the launch date, but no official word has yet come from Square Enix. The title is set to be published by Tencent.

Release incoming?

Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed last November that Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios had approached him with the concept of a mobile adaptation for the hit MMORPG, sparking a collaborative process to redesign the game in a way that would be “easier for mobile users”.

“This is our latest MMORPG title specifically tailoured for the mobile platform. Lightspeed Studios is working with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication to faithfully recreate the story, battle content and other aspects of the original game,” Yoshida said at the time.

Ultimately, Final Fantasy XIV has been built as a more casual version of the game to be played in shorter bursts, and will therefore operate separately to the PC and console version when it does release.

The title already received a licence approval in China last year, qualifying it for a release in the Chinese market this summer should the App Store’s release date prove accurate. Pre-registrations for the game have already opened.

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile’s upcoming release follows a string of game closures in the franchise, including Brave Exvius and Crystal Chronicles on iOS. War of the Visions is also shutting down this May.

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is still operational, having generated $100 million in player spending in little over a year.
