While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
mo.co
Nearly 18 months on from a successful beta test, Supercell’s latest launch is here with portal-hopping mo.co springing up around the world. The only snag to this global launch is its invite-only install method, requiring eager players to catch a limited-time QR code or apply online for an invitation.
Those who do find their way into the game can expect to fight monsters, explore dungeons, research Chaos Energy and adventure through parallel worlds.
The release marks Supercell’s seventh global launch, less than one year on from Squad Busters.
Songs of Conquest Mobile
90s-inspired Songs of Conquest is the latest turn-based title to turn to mobile, with the aptly named Songs of Conquest Mobile available now at a premium price point.
Almost three years on from its initial PC release, Lavapotion’s strategy game features four campaigns from factions Loth, Arleon, Rana and Barya, with large-scale battles awaiting on the tips of these magician-army fingers.
Avatar Legends: Realms Collide
The latest addition to the Avatar Legends universe, Avatar Legends: Realms Collide is a 4X strategy title bringing plenty of familiar faces and legendary characters from across the franchise to mobile and PC.
A real team effort, AN Games developed this latest series entry under a licence from Paramount Game Studios, published the game via Tilting Point and landed an original story from Avatar Studios and Tim Hedrick – a writer for Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Avatar Legends: Realms Collide features new lands to explore and many enemies to conquer, all in the name of expanding an empire and taking down the sinister Father Glowworm. It topped the App Store’s Free Games chart on launch day.
Halfbrick Sports: Football
Real-time arcade sports game Halfbrick Sports: Football has reached kickoff with fast-paced matches and goal-scoring action open to mobile gamers both casual and competitive. Developed by Fruit Ninja maker Halfbrick, Halfbrick Sports: Football’s roster sports familiar faces from a range of its past games, all eager for a nostalgia-fulled kickabout.
Three-a-side games offer a chance to slide, dodge and tackle to victory in an experience inspired by Mario Strikers and Windjammers.
Captain Cowboy
Wadonk’s space-based puzzle adventure Captain Cowboy has returned to iOS after almost a decade since its original release. Gnurfs, Snorkhogs and laser turrets are all in tow, as are the underwater caverns, bus stops and asteroid maze.
While Captain Cowboy may not technically be a brand-new game, its comeback does mark the return of even more retro graphics. There’s a sequel in the works too.
