PlayStation Indie Boss Has Heard Devs Are Worried About Launching Close To GTA VI ‘Because That’s All Anyone’s Gonna Be Playing’
Greg Rice, Head of PlayStation Creators at Sony Interactive Entertainment, has revealed that heโs heard whispers of developers worried about Grand Theft Auto VI dominating the scene upon its launch later this year, and firmly believes the Rockstar Games title will be a massive boost for the industry.
Speaking with GamesRadar, Rice commented:
[GTA 6 is] going to be the best, awesome, giant game for the year, for sure. I hear a lot of the opposite of devs, worried about it sucking all the space out. โI donโt want to launch during GTA week or even month, because thatโs all anyoneโs gonna be playing.โ
But I think the industry is matured enough that thereโs space for that and for other things as well. Itโs gonna be a combination of โthere will be games that will be successful around GTA time because theyโre totally different,โ but itโll also bring a lot more people back into the ecosystem.

Iโm sure thereโs lots of gamers that [GTA 6 will be] the only thing they play, itโll be the opportunity to get in on the new console generation and see what else is out there. So itโs definitely gonna be a big economic boost for the games industry, and will be a multiple billion dollar title, but I donโt think that itโs at competition with [indie games].
GTA VI has been a major talking point among analysts lately, with a couple of them predicting that the upcoming crime opus will retail for $100. In related news, it has also been rumoured that GTA VI will implement user-generated content styled after the likes of Fortnite and Roblox, although Rockstar hasnโt announced anything in this respect.
Rockstar Games has previously confirmed that GTA VI will launch in Fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
