Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched GameLift Streams that allow developers stream games to browser-enabled devices.
The tech giant claimed the service can stream high-fidelity, low-latency games without developers needing to modify their titles or build their own streaming infrastructure.
Amazon said that developers can use the platform to stream games to virtually any WebRTC-enabled device, including PCs, phones, tablets, and smart TVs, with minimal code modifications.
GameLift leverages AWS’s cloud network to deliver a 1080p and 60 FPS gameplay, it said.
The AWS streaming service supports Windows, Linux, and Proton runtimes. It works with browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari via WebRTC.
New opportunities
“With more than 750 million people playing games running on AWS every month, we have a long history of supporting the industry’s game development, content creation, player acquisition, personalisation, and more,” said AWS head of immersive technology Chris Lee.
“Amazon GameLift Streams can help the game industry transform billions of everyday devices around the world into gaming machines without rebuilding game code or managing your own infrastructure.
“For game developers, this creates exciting new revenue and monetisation opportunities that weren’t possible before.”
