While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.

So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.

Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers

New release roundup: Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, Dredge, Athena Crisis, Level Tank and more

Developed by Hunted Cow Games and published by Tilting Point, Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers monsters and other kaiju in a mobile 4X strategy game featuring turn-based RPG combat.

Players uncover the dark secrets of the Siren Isles in the campaign and fight superspecies in the monster vs. monster campaign, all while battling for survival and control “on the edge of civilisation”.

Athena Crisis

Retro-style Athena Crisis is bringing the latest dose of turn-based RPG gameplay to mobile, courtesy of indie developer Nakazawa Tech KK. The very first title from the dev, Athena Crisis puts players in command of over 40 ground, naval, air and special units as they take on enemy forces online or through a single-player campaign.

Advanced Wars-esque combat makes map positioning key, while Power Crystals add a unique flavour with allies and enemies alike able to enter the fray interdimensionally. A total of 10 maps can be played for free on mobile, and a full purchase also unlocks the game on PC and web browser.

Dredge

Finally angling a mobile release, horror fishing game Dredge has arrived on iOS and Android with its open-world archipelago in tow. Combining a maritime adventure with all the Lovecraftian encounters a mobile gamer could ask for, Dredge has over 125 species to discover across its rotating day-night cycle.

Black Salt Games’ original 2024 release window was disrupted when Google didn’t “believe we own the rights to our own game”, in developer Joel Mason’s own words. In the end, that’s just meant two extra months for eager explorers to get ship-shape for their next adventures.

Catagrams

Ponderosa Games’ feline-friendly word game Catagrams combines cute kitties and classic puzzle gameplay, tasking players with forming words from letter tiles. Extra help can be found in each word’s distinctly coloured thread, signalling which tiles belong to a shared word, and overall making Catagrams more on the laidback side of word puzzlers.

That’s not to call this a total catnap, though, as the more hardcore cat lovers can build daily streaks and compete with friends, earn special accessories for their felines and even fill in hand-drawn illustrations through their puzzle-solving purrowess.

Level Tank

Endless enemies, multiple game modes and top-down tank gameplay awaits in Hyper Bit Games’ Level Tank. The new roguelite features more than 20 maps as of launch and 24 unlockable challenge modes for players’ pixel-art armoured vehicles to navigate, with gradual upgrades helping each run last just that little bit longer.

Huntbound

Co-operative monster hunting and colourful cartoon visuals combine in Huntbound, Tao Team’s new RPG all about forming the ultimate legacy. Players can battle dragons, giant boar and more alone or with up to three friends, each choosing their preferred playstyle between bow and arrow, sword and shield or a big old axe.
