The Epic Games Store on mobile is a “focal point” for Epic in 2025 as the Fortnite maker plans to work on “building an enhanced app library and discover experience”.

The commitment follows a rise in total cross-platform accounts in 2024 to 898 million, up 94m since 2023. PC users totalled 295m, up from 270m in 2023.

PocketGamer.biz asked for clarification on the number of mobile-specific accounts, but Epic did not provide any. These figures imply that 69m new accounts were created outside of PC.

Epic  shared that its increase in accounts included those “created through partner platforms and the Epic Games Store on mobile”.

The Epic Games Store expanded to iOS in the EU and Android globally last year with Fortnite, Fall Guys and more already in tow.

Paying and playing

According to Epic, the company averaged 67m monthly active users in 2024 with a peak of 74m in December, slightly below 2023’s 75m peak. Daily active users averaged 32m for the full year of 2024, up 6% year-over-year, spending 7.7 billion total store gameplay hours.

Despite a rise, player spending by PC users on third-party applications using Epic Payments fell 18% Y/Y to $255m – noteworthy when considering Epic’s various initiatives to get developers using the store and the significant investment the company has made in its marketplace.

In total, PC users spent almost $1.09bn on the Epic Games Store, a rise of 15% Y/Y. No specifics were provided for mobile or other platforms.

While there’s ambiguity in how much of Epic’s 2024 store figures came from Fortnite players alone, the Epic Games Store 2024 Year in Review did list HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, Psyonix’s Rocket League and Rockstar’s GTA V ahead of Fortnite in player spend and engagement.

Kuro Games’ cross-platform gacha hit Wuthering Waves also made the top 10. The title found substantial success on mobile last year with over $150m in App Store and Play Store player spending. The title’s performance led to publishing giant Tencent acquiring a majority stake in the studio.

Looking ahead

In 2025, Epic expects its mobile catalogue to increase in size and foresees users being able to switch away from their native platform as they browse the store. Mobile self-publishing tools are also set to expand beyond the current invite-only beta.

“We’re excited to open up the tools for self-service publishing to all mobile developers later this year,” Epic Games said.

The Epic Games Store will also aim to allow self-publishing of non-gaming apps this year, reflecting broader industry changes as consumer spending on apps outpaces mobile games. This has led companies like EA and Krafton to consider new opportunities.
