The Emirates Esports Federation (EEF) and ITW Universe have launched an Invitation to Tender, a formal request for bids, for investment in acquiring and operating a franchised team in the upcoming E Gaming League (EGL).
The league’s owners said it’s a significant opportunity for global investors, esports teams, and businesses to join the growing esports ecosystem, aiming to establish the UAE as a hub for digital entertainment and economic growth.
Although the franchise fee for the league remains undisclosed, bidders must pay a non-refundable $2,000 submission fee. Accepted franchisees must pay 10% of the total fee within 10 days, with payment contracts signed by March 12.
EGL plans to feature 24 franchised teams across major regions, offering a $1 million per-season prize pool for prize money and player salaries.
The first official season begins on May 22. Franchise owners will benefit from a 60% revenue share, a 50% guaranteed return on the licensing fee, and a perpetual EGL franchise license. Player registration begins in late March, followed by a draft process in April.
Shaping the future
“The EGL franchise model represents a groundbreaking evolution in the esports industry,” said Emirates Esports Federation President Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakbout Al Nahyan.
He added: “It is not just a framework but a transformative platform that ensures stability, fosters global collaboration, and unlocks unparalleled opportunities for long-term investment.
“Esports has grown beyond virtual entertainment to become a mass sport that transcends borders, cultures, and generations. With EGL, we are not just hosting games – we are shaping the future of the digital economy.”
