Arrowhead Games Has Loads Of Future Plans For Helldivers 2, Will “Gradually” Reveal More About The Illuminate
Helldivers 2 absolutely exploded onto the scene when it launched this time last year. No one expected it to be as big as it was, not even Arrowhead Games. A year later, and plenty of lessons learned along the way though, Arrowhead has stayed on the ball through everything.
In fact, Arrowhead seems to be running a tight ship, that not only has plans for what’s to come the rest of the year, the team already has ideas for major future plans.
According to game director Mikael Eriksson, (per Polygon), the studio has a Helldivers 2 v5.0 planned, whatever that means. And of course, part of those plans includes bringing updates to the game’s latest faction, The Illuminate.
“We’re building this system to be more interesting in many different ways. One of the main ways we’re expanding on the Galactic War is the game master, like the game master in a tabletop role-playing game – the people who have tools at their disposal like control events, functionality, specific enemies, specific missions, modifications to the game rules, and so forth.”
Eriksson also went on to discuss how Arrowhead will continue improving community-led events, and random events, as two other points of focus. When it came to what’s next for the Illuminate though, Eriksson did allude to more coming – but in cryptic fashion.
“The Illuminate are more advanced than they might seem, and they have a long history in the Helldivers universe. There’ll be a lot more coming with the Illuminate, and their intentions will become gradually more clear as the story progresses.”
With how Arrowhead has established its Galactic War narrative, and established a games master to it all, like in tabletop games, it feels like there’s a wicked degree of potential with the future of Helldivers 2. In their own way, Arrowhead has established a new way to pilot a live service game. It’ll be interesting to see how it continues that balancing act going into the game’s second year.
