The PlayStation Network Is Back Up Following 24hr-Long Outage, Sony Offers Small Gift To PS Plus Subscribers

The PlayStation Network is officially back up, with the PlayStation Network Service Status website now showing all green dots instead of the four red ones players had to stare at since this past Friday evening.

Service had slowly begun to return Saturday in bits and pieces, but there were still prevalent issues for players throughout the whole day. It was fully restored by the end of the day, and by that we mean the very end of the day and pretty much into Sunday, since the AskPlayStation support account on X first acknowledged that the service was up a little after midnight.

A few hours later, the AskPlayStation account confirmed again that the network was back up and running, while also adding that every PS Plus subscriber will be gifted 5 extra days added to their subscription as a way of saying sorry.

“Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.”

5 free days of PS Plus is surely a nice gift, in someone’s mind, but players likely had something more akin to what happened after the 2011 outage in their minds as to what Sony should do for its apology.

Especially when you consider that the 5 free days could mean nothing, if the PlayStation Network were to have another major outage.

Perhaps if it wasn’t just a service outage, and millions of people’s credit card information was at risk, then we would have gotten a free game or two out of this outage.
