Ubisoft Lays Off Another 185 Developers, Shuts Down Leamington Studio
Another 185 developers have just been laid off, this time from Ubisoft, with cuts hitting the publishers branches in Düsseldorf, Stockholm, Newcastle and Leamington.
In the case of Ubisoft Leamington, Ubisoft has entirely shut down that studio, with Eurogamer reporting that the whole team save for a “small number” of the 50 people who worked there have been let go.
The rest of the cuts come from the Ubisoft Reflections team in Newcastle, Ubisoft Düsseldorf and Ubisoft Stockholm. In a statement from a Ubisoft spokesperson, the company said these layoffs were “part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft.”
Ubisoft goes on to call these layoffs “targeted restructurings,” before listing the previously mentioned studios impacted, and the closure of Ubisoft Leamington.
“Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition.”
In a statement posted to the Ubisoft Leamington studio page on LinkedIn, Ubisoft confirms that between the Leamington Spa office and the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne office, 100 jobs are being cut.
Plenty of excellent, high-selling games released in 2023 and 2024, but the last two years are marked more for the staggering amount of layoffs and studio closures the industry endured. Unfortunately, it seems like 2025 is getting off to the same kind of start.
